Frequently Asked Questions
What type of space requirements do you need to dance?
I can work with a variety of places. Living rooms, backyards, and similar spaces are fine as long as they are free of ground debris. Be prepared to discuss the space and floor or ground so I can prepare properly. I am selective about props in small places—for example, I would not use a sword at a children’s party in a small living room.
Do you dance at restaurants?
Yes. I am comfortable dancing at restaurants, parks or pavilions, private venues, and recreation centers for parties or weddings. I will clear it with management first if required.
What do you require for your music?
I can bring music on a USB, phone to aux, Spotify playlist, or CD. I can use your equipment or bring a small speaker set. My portable speakers work for a small gathering but are not powerful enough for a large party or wedding.
What’s a set?
A set is prepared music, usually 10–15 minutes long. For a 30-minute booking, we can divide it into two 15-minute sets or three 10-minute sets, with at least 30 minutes between sets. Each set can include a different costume, prop, music, and audience participation.
Can you dance to music from my country or region?
Sarah Rose’s training has been heavily influenced by American, Turkish, and Egyptian styles. If you are from a particular country or region, please mention it early so she can choose music and regional dance stylization with respect and appreciation.
I want to learn to dance. Where can I start?
Email Sarah Rose about hiring her for a group class. For weekly instruction, she recommends Nomadic Tapestry in Huntsville and Datura Online.
Do you do bachelor parties?
No. Sarah Rose does not perform for parties with only men in the audience. Women-only and mixed crowds are welcome.
What can my guests expect?
Audience participation is usually encouraged. Guests may cheer, stand up, and dance along. Sarah Rose can introduce herself and explain the dance beforehand, and can give special attention to a birthday person or mother of the bride if requested.
Do you accept tips?
Yes. Sarah Rose will have a tip jar or basket. She does not accept body tipping, when money is placed directly into clothing.
How long does it take to become proficient at dance?
Sarah Rose has been belly dancing for over half her life and continues learning every day. Consistent, rigorous practice is the best path to proficiency, and she tries to practice at least four days a week.
Can you fire dance?
Not at this moment, but Sarah Rose is working toward learning. Stay tuned!
